A mastering console is a central hardware console used by a mastering engineer to combine audio signals, add hardware inserts of equalizers, compressors, limiters and perform Mid-Side adjustments to the audio tracks being mastered. Inputs might be analog or digital tape machines, DAW’s, CD players. The mastering console will also be used for switching between different pairs of monitors and headphones and controlling their volume.
