Digital Audio Workstation software, or quite simply “DAW software”, has revolutionized our craft by immensely facilitating the recording, editing and mixing process by eliminating many of the hurdles imposed by the analog production process. DAWs are first and foremost a “tape machine and a mixer” emulated on a computer - hence the term mixing “in the box” (or ITB for short) - but as with all things software, DAWs have evolved to offer a lot more than that.
