Small, high-resolution condenser microphones designed mainly for music recording, the CU-31 and CU-32 capture sound beautifully, not only for a full orchestra but also in solo musical instrument performances. A high transient response allows the
superb broadcast or recording of percussion, cymbal sounds and woodwind instruments.
The Sanken CU-31 and CU-32 are small, lightweight microphones for TV / radio broadcasting and studio recording. Delivering a natural, uncolored sound, they feature Sanken's original Push-Pull type capsule design, which gives them sensitivity 6dB higher than conventional microphones of the same size. As a result, they are particularly suited for cleanly capturing such explosive, high pressure sound sources as trumpets and drums. In addition to their high maximum SPL of 148dB at 1%THD, the CU-31 and CU-32 offer a very flat frequency response ( 20Hz to 18,000Hz ). Like all Sanken microphones, these mics come with a light, strong, corrosion-free one-micron titanium diaphragm which is immune to changes in temperature and humidity. These are very practical, proven microphones. The CU-31 and CU-32 are especially renowned not only for their quality, but for their reliability.
CU-31 Maximum sensitivity: on axis
CU-32 *Maximum sensitivity: 90° to longitudinal axis
...case there is not that much information to be found. I'm in the process of buying a pair of secondhand sanken cu-32 small condensers. They are not available in europe so I have no idea about pricing. Also, I won't be able to test them before I'll get them so I'm going on the sanken...
The Sanken CU-41 is not RoHs compliant (yes, probably lead in the solder), hence not available in EU and China. (Same counts for CU-31 and CU-32.) You could try in Norway and Switzerland as closests non-EU countries.
...have loved every mic from Sanken that I have used, and am curious about using a pair of CU-31 or CU-32 for recording with a MixPre 6II. The Sanken mics that I have used could be described as “the most omni cardioid mics in existence.” Even at 90° off axis they have a smooth frequency...
